Hur allvarlig är sjukdomen ME/CFS?

- De patienter som kommer till Gotahälsan är ofta väldigt hårt drabbade, men det finns betydligt mildare former med en lite mer allmänt uttalad trötthet, där patienterna kan fungera hyfsat normalt. Om man överför amerikanska siffror till Sverige skulle det kunna vara så många som 40 000 svenskar som har ME/CFS.

Hur pass vanligt är det att man får ME/CFS av svininfluensavaccinet?

- Jag har stött på fyra-sex stycken. ME/CFS är en omdiskuterad sjukdom och diagnos och det gör att man är mer osäker om det finns en koppling. Det kan finnas ett stort mörkertal. Efter sprutan mot svininfluensa blev André Lennartsson, 16, svårt sjuk.

Inte i narkolepsi - utan i en hittills okänd misstänkt biverkning av vaccinet: den fruktade hjärnsjukdomen ME.

- Jag har inte gått i skolan på tre år, säger André.

Större delen av dagarna ligger André Lennartsson i sängen i vardagsrummet i villan i Norberg. Han kämpar för att hänga med i den anpassade studiegång som Brinellskolan i Fagersta ordnat.

Före sprutan älskade han att köra fyrhjuling och träna hunden Aslan i freestyle.

Har ont trots 15 tabletter


Nu har han svår värk som gör honom sängliggande.

- Jag saknar att orka träffa kompisar och leka med Aslan, säger André.

Han äter uppemot 15 värktabletter om dagen, men har ändå ont.

- Bara att kliva upp ur sängen och ta sig till toaletten är en enorm ansträngning som gör att André blir helt slut och får mer ont, berättar pappa Mikael Lennartsson, 46.

Kände sig konstig i kroppen


André har sedan barnsben reumatism och var därför tvungen att ta sprutan mot svininfluensa. Redan samma kväll - den 29 oktober 2009 - klagade han på att det kändes konstigt i kroppen.

- Sedan stegrades Andrés smärta och trötthet. Det var så sorgligt, för han hade knappt haft några symptom av reumatismen utan kunnat leva som vilken ung pojke som helst det senaste året, säger Mikael Lennartsson.

Ger svår utmattning


Föräldrarna beskriver vilken kamp det varit för att symptomen skulle tas på allvar. Först i maj i år fick André diagnosen ME, en sjukdom som ger svår utmattning.

De barn och unga som drabbats av narkolepsi på grund av vaccineringen har lovats ersättning. Men det är fortfarande oklart vad som händer med dem som fått ME.

- Läkemedelsförsäkringen inväntar den pågående studien hos läkemedelsverket beträffande autoimmuna sjukdomar efter svininfluensavaccinet innan försäkringen fattar beslut, säger Anders Öhlén, vd på läkemedelsförsäkringen.

"Har fått sitt liv förstört"


Studien kommer troligtvis i början av nästa år och först då skickar Läkemedelsförsäkringen ME-ärendena vidare för medicinsk bedömning.

Mikael tycker att politikerna glömt bort ME-barnen:

- ME är kroniskt och André har fått sitt liv förstört. Vi kräver åtminstone ett svar av Göran Hägglund.

Beredskap finns

Statens veterinärmedicinska anstalt (SVA) i Sverige har ännu inte upptäckt något fall där gris eller människa burit på MRSA CC398. Men det finns en beredskap för att den danska bakterien når Sverige.

–  2011 gjordes en undersökning i de svenska avelsbesättningarna, där det finns grisar importerade från Danmark. Där fanns inga fall, och skulle det komma in där så sprids ju smittan nedåt i pyramiden, säger Per Wallgren, professor på SVA.

–  Det här är en smitta som vi absolut inte vill ha in i Sverige, men den är svår att skydda sig emot. Man har ju inte rätt att kolla till exempel om anställda grisskötare skulle vara bärare.

Whooping cough is a highly contagious bacterial infection of the lungs and airways. The medical term for whooping cough is pertussis.

Young babies under the age of six months are likely to be admitted to hospital as they are most at risk of severe complications, such as serious breathing difficulties.

They will be treated in isolation to prevent the infection spreading and will be given antibiotics into a vein through a drip (intravenously).

- På telefon pratade jag med en läkare som sa att, "Gunde, du måste förstå, att du kan inte göra samma tid på 10 kilometer som när du var 20 år". Jag har haft min kropp som verktyg i 10-12 år och jag borde veta sånt själv. Det slutade med att både min fru och jag grät i telefon.

Tårarna föll


När Gunde fick frågan om hur sjukdomen har påverkat hans 19-åriga dotter Julia, själv elitsatsande skidåkare, kunde han inte hålla tillbaka tårarna.

Malou: Ja, Gunde, jag ska inte pressa dig.

- För min del spelar inte så stor roll men för henne... sa Gunde innan tårarna på nytt tog över.

Malou: Men hon är på bättringsvägen nu eller hur?

Gunde: Ja.

Malou: Och hon kommer tillbaka till träningen?

Gunde: Ja, det hoppas jag verkligen.

Om sin egen sjukdom berättade Gunde att han nu mådde betydligt bättre jämfört med ett år tillbaka:

- Det är som natt och dag. Helt otroligt. Vilken skillnad.

På torsdagen gick de ut med en varning.

Upptäckten gjordes efter att forskarna intresserat sig för två mystiska dödsfall i sydvästra Kongo-Kinshasa 2009, uppger

Sjukdomen drabbade en 15-årig pojke och en 13-årig flicka som bodde i samma by. Ungdomarna drog på sig de vanliga symptomen för ebola: kraftiga blödningar från näsa, mun och andra kroppsöppningar.

Joseph Fair, vid företaget Metabiota har undersökt viruset säger att ungdomarna inte hade en chans.

– De dog inom tre dagar, dödsförloppet är väldigt snabbt, säger han till NBC.

Sköterska smittades

Några dagar efter dödsfallen upptäckte sjukvården att den sköterska som tagit hand om ungdomarna led av liknande symptom. Men mannen klarade sig.

Nu har prover från sjuksköterskan gett svar på vad som dödade de två ungdomarna.

– Vi förvånades över att den här patienten hade spår i sitt blod från ett helt okänt och oidentifierat virus, säger Dr. Charles Chiu vid University of California som undersökte proverna.

Släkt med rabies

Viruset, som har fått namnet Bas-Congo, är besläktat med ebola och det virus som leder till blödarfebern lassafeber. Men virusets allra närmaste släkting är sjukdomen rabies, enligt NBC.

Enligt forskarna tyder mycket på att viruset sprids genom mänsklig kontakt. Men det finns också farhågor om att sjukdomen kan spridas via insekter.

– Det har troligen lurat ute i avlägsna områden och orsakat sporadiska utbrott av blödarfeber, säger Charles Chiu.

Efter fyndet av Bas-Congo arbetar forskarna nu för fullt med att hitta nya viruskloner.

– Jag misstänker att det finns ett flertal andra virus där ute som ännu inte har upptäckts, säger Joseph Fair till NPR.
